Outlander delivered what is arguably the best episode of the season so far tonight. The episode as a whole was fantastic, but was also filled with great little moments, from Dougal’s impression of a granny to the men’s tavern fight and the always welcome interactions between Claire and Jamie. One moment, about eight and a half minutes into the episode, delighted me to no end and is the inspiration for this post.
As the men and Claire continue their journey to collect rent, the men join Dougal in song. It is a small thing, almost inconsequential to the plot, but a great chance to show the men’s camaraderie. The scene also brought back memories of a certain promotional image featuring Jamie, Dougal, Rupert, Murtagh, and Angus.
Why this image? Now, this is where things get a little weird. After hearing the men sing and remembering the above image, I started thinking about a MacKenzie boy band. There, I said it. Sarah and I had a laugh over it and tossed around a few band names. She also encouraged me to come up with an album cover and I did, before taking it a step further and coming up with a short track listing. Most of the titles take their cue from well known songs and one was inspired by this week’s episode.
And now that I have exposed my continuing love for 90s pop music, I leave you with this little diversion and hope you enjoy!
