Preview night: It is when you have three hours to preview the floor of San Diego Comic Con. This is your first look at everyone’s booth and all the merchandise you have been drooling over. I seriously think people spend all their savings on some of these toys, figurines, etc. The only goal for preview night for me, Ginger from Outlander Podcast, and Marifel of Outlander SoCal was to find some Outlander merchandise or anything else Outlander-related. The three hours was not in vain as we did find the Outlander presence, just not in a big way like the Starz booth aka Castle Leoch last year.
First up, the Starz booth (as predicted and hinted at) is all about Ash vs Evil Dead. It features Ash’s trailer. You are able to walk through the trailer and grab some swag for your troubles. I have tried two days in a row to get into that trailer and the line is always capped.
We found the booth for AbbyShot and were treated to the first look at the Outlander tartan products that were literally just approved by Sony. They are not for sale yet, but keep checking their website for all the tartan merch. There will be tartan ties, bow ties, scarves, and shawls. The Outlander, MacKenzie, Wedding, and Cocknammon tartan are available for the scarves. The lovely Adam and Joe modeled the products for us. If you stop by their booth (#2003), ask if you can see the prototypes. You can sign up for a newsletter to be notified when the products become available to order.
The next stop was the Random House booth as we wanted to check in with the staff about the autograph signings with the Outlander cast, crew, and Diana Gabaldon on Saturday. The way to guarantee autographs is to get to the Random House booth as soon as the floor opens on Saturday. There are a limited amount of tickets, but they are free. If you have any other questions, head over to the Random House booth (1515 and 1520).
Furthermore, on Friday, Diana Gabaldon will be doing autographs by herself on Friday at the Random House booth. The same process applies like the autographs on Saturday. You need to get to the Random House booth as soon as the floor opens on Friday morning and get a ticket. They are free, but they are a limited quantity.
Next up was to stop by Factory Entertainment‘s booth (#2647). They are awaiting final approval for Sony on their products, but some were on display. They are not available for purchase at this time. The products include notecards, notebooks, lithographs and a water canteen/liquor flask ( Je Suis Prest on it with the Fraser crest).
So, in the span of a couple of hours, we were able to see a bit of Outlander merch. Nothing else new happened on Day 1 (Thursday) in the world of Outlander at SDCC, so there will no post dedicated to that day.
