Starz released the season four Outlander opening credits today and show composer Bear McCreary has done it again. Season three left us on the banks of a new America full of new opportunities for Jamie (Sam Heughan) and Claire (Caitriona Balfe). The new show open firmly establishes that we are not in Kansas, France Scotland anymore.
The credits open on our standing stone dancers from season one, but in this iteration vocalist Raya Yarbrough sings Acapella. She’s joined shortly after by banjo and later by mandolin, adding a distinct bluegrass flair. (This is important because Drums in Autumn–book four in the Outlander series–takes place in the Blue Ridge Mountains, the birth place of blue grass.)
Visually we see a few new key locations for book lovers like “the Big House” and River Run sprinkled in among the classic scenes derived from season one on. We also see some familiar names on the title cards including Toni Graphia and Maril Davis (which excite me the most! Yeeee!).
