The Outlander prequel, Blood of My Blood, begins to film this week in Glasgow. The news of production beginning came about by way of road closure announcements. When the news broke, I was highly skeptical of its accuracy, considering we don’t have any casting news for this prequel. There’s nothing like fan photos spoiling who might be appearing in this new series. However, that doesn’t mean that casting news won’t drop this week before any actors appear in public.
There hasn’t been any news about the series other than the prequel series, which was greenlit by Starz and Sony. There are finished scripts, considering filming will commence this week.
For those in the dark, Blood of My Blood will focus on Jamie Fraser’s parents, Brian and Ellen Fraser, and center around how they met, fell in love, etc. Outlander author Diana Gabaldon has long mentioned her writing a prequel about Jamie’s parents; it’s just that Starz has jumped the gun a bit, but of course, Diana Gabaldon will be a consultant on this series.
It has not been mentioned if this prequel will be a one-off series, meaning there may not be a second season.
Looking back at the Twitter timelines of the casting directors for Blood of My Blood, a notice that went out in November mentioned filming for a specific unnamed series from January to March 2024 that just happened to need Scottish Gaelic-speaking actors for the show.

One of the casting directors also retweeted The Herald article listing the street closures and stating filming would begin in Glasgow.
As far as when the second half of Outlander season seven will air, there is still no word on that, unfortunately. We also don’t know when season eight of Outlander will film, but I would guess after the prequel stops filming.
Maybe we will get a lot of Outlander-related news this week!
